Symphonic Strings
The Symphonic Orchestra will be composed of selected junior high and high school students who have demonstrated an expressed desire and dedication to their instrument and the betterment of their skills. They will perform music at an advanced level with a strong emphasis on performance strategy. Placement in the Symphonic Orchestra requires two to three years experience with their instrument (exceptions may occur based on ability), a knowledge of intermediate music theory (including key signatures, time signatures, rhythm reading, and solfege) and a strong command of all major scales. Students in Symphonic Orchestra will be encouraged to challenge themselves to achieve at their highest level in a safe environment where mistakes are part of the learning process. They will also learn to respect the process of creating beautiful music through personal practice and classroom diligence. Students in Symphonic Orchestra are encouraged to audition for Regional Orchestra in the fall semester. They will have four concerts a year and several competition opportunities for students who are interested. See the Handbook to learn more.
